Genevieve Johnston, 92, a resident of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Fort Bayard Medical Center.

She was born February 17, 1922 in Silver City, NM to Juan Velarde Gomez and Gregoria Morales. She was employed as a Home Economics' teacher for Raton High School. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and a member of WNMU Alumni. She was a Nursing Cadet with the Cadet Nursing Corps.during WWII. She worked as an LPN nurse for Dr. Watts at the Watts Clinic.

She is survived by one son, John Douglas Johnston of Silver City; two grandchildren, Emalee McNally of Berkley, CA and Jessica Jerozal of San Ramon, CA; seven great-grandchildren; two nieces, Valeria Bustillos of Corona, CA and Annette Williams of Tucson, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Bernard Johnston ('96); her parents, one son, John Ernest Johnston ('68); one sister, Celia Padilla.

Visitation will be Monday, October 27 from 5-6 pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the vigil service and holy rosary to begin at 6 pm with Deacon Bill Holguin reciting. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 28 at 2 pm at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Rod Nichols officiating. Concluding service interment will follow at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Johnston, Danny Williams, Jack Flynn, Bill Holguin, Thom Haxton and Virgil Giambernardi.  Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Padilla, Maurice Aragon, Steve Houtz, Theresa Chaparro and Jack Gonzalez.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Genevieve's name to Sisters of St. Joseph, PO Box 279 Concordia, KS 66901. Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels.
