Roberto Hernandez Carreon, 77, of Silver City, NM passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 16, 2014, after fighting a ten-year battle with cancer.

Roberto was born to Roberto O. Carreon and Maria Hernandez Carreon in Torreon, Mexico and grew up in Chihuahua. As a young man, he migrated to the United States as a Bracero where he worked as a migrant farm worker. Roberto worked in Grant County as a Miner for many years and was an avid member of the Local 890 United Steelworkers. He was also a heavy equipment operator, a truck driver and a foreman for Terrazas Construction. Later in life, he ran a small lumber business. Roberto loved Mariachi music, the outdoors, watching soccer, boxing and baseball. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Roberto is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Dionisia, four sons, Roberto Carreon and his companion Debra Marin of Silver City; Ruben Carreon (Betty) of Alamogordo; Mario Carreon (Cheryl) of Las Cruces and Angel Carreon (Wendy) of El Paso, TX; ten grandchildren, Roberto Carreon IV, Jesus Edwardo Nuñez, Angel Carreon, Robert Garcia, Isaiah Garcia, Christopher Carreon, Adriana Salazar, Xavier and Emma Ortiz and Mari Sofia Carreon; several step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jose Carreon (Soledad) and Jesus Carreon (Martha); three sisters, Carmen Meza, Angelita Meza and Evita Martinez (Francisco).

Roberto is preceded in death by his parents, Roberto and Maria Carreon; his grandson, Benjamin Carreon; two infant brothers, Pedro and Ruben Carreon; and one infant sister, Rosa Carreon.

Visitation will be Friday, November 21 from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil and holy rosary to begin at 6pm with Deacon Bill Holguin reciting. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, November 22 at 10am at Infant Jesus Shrine with Father Roberto Barreto officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Lane cemetery. Pallbearers will be Roberto Carreon IV, Jesus Eduardo Nuñez, Angel Carreon, Christopher Carreon, Marco Martinez, Francisco Martinez, Roberto Garcia and Isaiah Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be Jesus Dominguez, Sabas Villagran, Simon Villanueva, Arnold Ortiz, Horacio Villegas, Eddie Sanchez, Candelario Barragan, Leovijildo Castro, Xavier Ortiz, and Regenaldo Cisneros.
