Alvin Herbert Richmond was born on September 28, 1924 to William and Marie Richmond in Chicopee Massachusetts. He passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on November 21, 2014.

He served in the US Air Force from 1946 to 1949. He met and married Ellen Burklund on October 21, 1949 while stationed at McCord AFB in Tacoma, Washington. He worked on the family poultry farm in Wilbraham, Massachusetts with his parents. He left the farm when he developed asthma. He then worked installing bulk feed tanks. He then started his own business as a building contractor.

After several years, his asthma forced him to move to a drier climate, and they moved to Deming, New Mexico in 1971. He worked as a building contractor for several years in Deming. After that, he worked as a rural mail carrier until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed his retirement by building many pieces of furniture with wife Ellen (his "man"). He also enjoyed going into the mountains and rock hounding.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ellen Richmond, daughters Alice Roragen (Merrill) of Sequim WA, Lorraine Coulter (Byron) of Rogue River OR, Christine Gonzales (Juan) of Deming, Carol Teeter (James) of Deming, Faye Pecille (Joseph) of Albuquerque and sons Alvin Richmond, Jr. (Marcia) of Westfield MA, Ernest Richmond (Christy) of Duluth GA and Harold Richmond (Palma) of Deming. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at First Christian Church, 119 West Maple, Deming. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ambercare Hospice or the charity of your choice.
