Dolores Maria "Lola" G. Chavez, 70, lifetime Deming resident, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.

Visitation will begin this afternoon, Tuesday December 2, 2014, at 4 o'clock at Baca's Funeral Chapels with the Prayer Vigil being held at 6 o'clock led by Suzanne Lundy. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated tomorrow, Wednesday December 3, at 10 o'clock in the morning at St. Ann's Catholic Church. The rite of committal and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with Fr. Manuel F. Ibarra, Pastor, officiating.

She was born in Deming on October 21, 1944 to Fidencia Chavez and Simon Guzman. She attended Deming Schools and on December 18, 1965 she married Joe Chavez and was a communicant at St. Ann Parish. She retired as a housekeeper at Days Inn after 14 years of dedicated service. "Lola" as she was affectionately known, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. When she was not out eating, in the company of her husband Joe, she was enjoying family gatherings with her children and grandchildren. Watching the Dallas Cowboys play was a priority to her.

Survivors include her husband, Joe of the home; 5 sons, Joe Chavez Jr. and wife Deanna, Jacob Chavez, Johnny Chavez and wife Claudia and Robert Chavez of Deming and Daniel Chavez and wife Christina of Mishawaka, IN; 2 daughters, Rachel Chavez and Jo Ann Chavez and husband, Richard Escobar of Deming; brother, Jesus "Chuy" and wife Margaret Guzman of Las Cruces; 2 sisters, Estella Jones of El Paso, TX and Bertha and husband Arturo Bravo of Deming; 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents; brother, Charlie Guzman; 2 sisters, Esperanza "Hopie" Aragon and Dora Wood; grandson, Anthony Jacob Chavez and an infant daughter, Maria.

Serving as pallbearers will be J. D., D. J., Michael and Sergio Chavez, Timothy Ramirez and Daniel Escobar.
