John Carroll Jones was born in Roswell, NM on the 25th of May, 1946, to JC (Shadetree) Jones (deceased) and Mildred (Jimmie) Jones, who is presently living in Las Cruces, NM. His father was later elected as Sheriff of Chavez County. John enlisted in the Navy and served as a corpsman with the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. During his tour of duty in the Service he married Gisela Zapf. They had two children, a daughter Diana and a son Chris. Upon his release from active duty in June 1970, he attended NM State University in Las Cruces, NM graduating in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management. During his attendance at NMSU he also assisted his father in a transportation escort business. Upon graduation from the University he worked as co-manager for the TG&Y department store in Las Cruces and in 1978 moved to Silver City as manager of TG&Y until 1985. He later married June Russell Jones in 1990 and became stepfather to her son Chris Irvine. Upon completion of his service with TG&Y he began a new career in construction. He worked on many construction contracts throughout Grant County and retired in 2008. His favorite hobbies were camping, hunting, fishing and hiking. He loved the outdoors and spent a great deal of time exploring the Gila Wilderness. He was surrounded by friends and enjoyed having numerous social gatherings with them. He had a great sense of humor and was very quick to respond with a witty remark at an unexpected time. He loved spending time with his family and spending time in the southwest outdoors. John and June loved to work around their home, making numerous improvements both on their house and their yard.

John is survived by his wife June, his mother Mildred "Jimmie" of Las Cruces; two sisters, Carlin King of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and Diana Isaacs of Bonita Springs, Florida. Also surviving are his two children, his daughter Diana Wolfe of Mesa, AZ; his son Chris Jones of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, Chloe and Theoren of Mesa, AZ Alivia and Ayden of Silver City.

He was preceded in death by his father and a stepson, Chris Irvine.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Monday, December 8, at 1 pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Pastor Floyd Robertson officiating. The inurnment will follow at 2 pm at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors. Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.
