Dorothy S. Homyak, 86, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014, at the Decker family care home in Mimbres, New Mexico.

She was born on September 26, 1928, and raised in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania.

Her parents, Frank and Victoria Moczulski, and her husband George, preceded her in death.

She is survived by daughters Kathy Lee Hill and Deborah H. Stowe, son-in-law Stephen O. Stowe; her sister Leona Di Renzo; many nieces and nephews; her Beagle, Mimbres Eve, and many grand dogs.

A retired RN, Dorothy graduated from Allentown Nursing School, Pennsylvania, in 1951. She married George Homyak, May 6, 1950, and then began her nursing career. Dorothy worked in many Veterans Administration Hospitals including Nashville, TN; Long Island NY; and Fort Bayard, NM in the early 1960s. In Cheyenne, WY, she was also nurse at FE Warren AFB Hospital. She retired from the Cheyenne, Wyoming VA Hospital.  Dorothy always put family first.  She loved her many dogs and cats and loved to watch the visiting birds in her yard. Dorothy had many travel adventures around much of the United States, Europe, Mexico, and Kenya.  In her spare time, she read, knitted, and enjoyed the outdoors.  With her green thumb she grew plants and gardened. Her sense of humor and kind personality made her many friends, long-time and recent.  She dearly loved all of her family. One of her greatest accomplishments was nursing her husband through his heart difficulties and Parkinson’s disease, a battle he lost in 2004. Dorothy loved life and would wish that everyone be kind to one another and show respect for the environment and animals.

Dorothy and George, a WWII Veteran, will be buried together at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Memorial donations can be sent to the animal shelter of your choice or Meals on Wheels.  Cremation has taken place at Terrazas Crematory.

Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels and Crematory.
