Michael M. Gomez, 63, a Cliff resident, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at his home.

The Holy Rosary will be recited by Deacon Jeremiah Bustillos at 3 O'clock in the afternoon Friday, January 2, 2015 at Baca's Funeral Chapels. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 O'clock in the morning, Saturday, January 3, 2015 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, officiated by Father Rod Nichols. Concluding services and inurnment officiated by Deacon Bill Holguin will follow at Cliff/Mesa Cemetery with military honors.

Michael was born August 23, 1951 in Silver City to Frank B. and Nieves (Munoz) Gomez. He served two terms in the United States Navy as a Class A Radioman and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He worked for the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service as a Hot shot. He enjoyed telling stories about his adventures, while here and abroad. He had a great sense of humor and had mastered the use of colorful language. He had a lot of knowledge in the use of herbal medicine to which he was willing to share with anyone. He loved his music, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and sports. He loved to watch all children playing with his animals which he loved very much. He had his own way of sharing his philosophy and his own way of calling things as he saw them. He was kind hearted and would do whatever to help others. He will be greatly missed but his spirit will live through us. From all of us rest now "El Baby" and "little brother".

He is survived by his daughter Amanda Kaye Gomez, granddaughter Nevaeh Purifoy, grandson Donavan Sweat of Indianapolis, ID, his son Michael A. Gomez, grandson Michael J. Gomez of Silver City, his brother Manuel and Theresa Gomez of Sun City, AZ, His sisters; Gloria and husband David Vega of Silver City, Ruth Gomez of Cliff, Uncle Jimmy Munoz of Silver City, His new found family from San Antonio, Aunts; Feliz Gomez Villanueva, Susie Gomez Sanchez, Victoria Gomez Salinas, Maria Louisa Gomez Herrera and uncle Pedro Gomez and Uncle Joe Berlanga of Bakersfield, CA, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doing the honors of carrying his cremains to the graveside will be his cousin Richard Gomez Chavez of Washington, DC.

He is preceded in death by his parents Frank B. and Nieves M. Gomez and a nephew Donald F. Howard.
