Mary Ellen Hopple, 89, Deming resident, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Fort Bayard Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 2, 2015 at 1 o'clock in the afternoon at Baca's Funeral Chapel.

Mary Ellen was born December 23, 1925 in El Paso, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Waltermeyer. She was a Deming resident since 1975 coming from Delta Junction, Alaska. Mary worked as a registered nurse. Her last employment was at Mimbres Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and enjoyed transporting children to Sunday school, served as a trustee and was active in the Women Circle. Mary was active in civic affairs as well, being involved with the creation of the Meals on Wheels program when it began in Deming. She was a volunteer at the museum, and was proud of an article that she wrote and was published in Reader's Digest.

Survivors include a son, David Lawrence Hopple of Deming; 2 daughters, SueAnn Benton of Medford, Oregon, Judith Ellen Diecidue of Phoenix, Arizona; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray W. Hopple and a daughter, Mary Catherine Richmond.
