Marian S. Payne passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, February 5, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Payne, parents William and Susie deDie, siblings Adrian, Henry, Samuel, Jenny, Winnie, Catherine and Cornelia.

She is survived by her daughters, Ruth of Phoenix, AZ; Jill Thomison (Steve) of Silver City; grandchildren Angela, Laura, Tracy, Brandon and Jessica; great granddaughter Alleyah and brother, William deDie of Michigan.

Marian was born in Portage, Michigan where she grew up on a celery farm. She worked in the fields early in the morning before attending school and then returning to the fields when school was over. After graduating high school, she worked in a paper mill before accepting employment in a hospital where she loved her job as a nurse's assistant.
Marian later moved to Cave Creek, Arizona where she married William (Bill) Payne. There, she learned to ride horses and motorcycles. Most every weekend, she could be found at the lake. She retired from Motorola and began traveling will Bill in their motorhome. After the loss of her husband in 1994, she relocated to Silver City where she helped to raise her grandchildren.

Marian loved crocheting, reading, baking, gardening and watching the Denver Broncos and golf on TV. She could always be found sitting in the bleachers at her grandchildren's sporting events cheering them on. Marian also belonged to The Widowed Persons and served as President for several years. It was there she met her best friend, Norma.
In 2011 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She faced it head on with a great attitude and strong spirit. With the wonderful treatment and support thanks to the Gila Regional Cancer Center, Gila Regional Hospital and most importantly Karen deGenevieve, we were able to have 3 more years with her. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed.

No services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers should friends desire, contributions may be sent to Puppy Dog Ranch or Silver City Public Library. Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels and Crematory.
