Marian Ellen Dibble Toney Williams, 87, of Silver City, passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at Millie¹s Assisted Living in Silver City.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Bright Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at the Arenas Valley Community Church on Friday, Feb. 13, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Laramore K. Wickette will officiate.
She was born July 8, 1927, in Waltham, Minn., Mora County. Before the age of 1, she moved with her parents, George Avery Dibble and Minnie Irene (Dawes) Dibble to Pittsville, Wis. She attended the local grade school and high school. She then attended St. Joseph¹s School of Nursing in Marshfield, Wis., graduating in 1948 as a registered nurse. She was in cadet nurse corps training for World War II. In 1948, she moved to Silver City, where she met Wayne C. "Chink" Toney. They were married on March 24, 1950, and had four children together. She married Thomas Hugh Williams on Dec. 21, 1981. Both preceded her in death. All of her working career was spent at Fort Bayard Medical Center, from where she retired in 1992. She was proud to say her résumé consisted of one line. She loved to travel, and had been to most of the 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. She also traveled overseas to England, Germany, Australia, Europe, Canada and the Caribbean. She thought travel was very educational and took her children and grandchildren and their friends on many of these trips. She was very patriotic and had a great love for her country and family. She was a life member of the Council on America¹s Military Past and the Order of the Eastern Star Georgetown Chapter. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid of the Valley Community Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, and Nurses Association, was liaison to the Children of the American Revolution, and had been a Girl Scout in Wisconsin when she was a child.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys, Bessie and Frances; brothers, Bill, Fred and Norm; and her parents, George and Irene.
She is survived by her four children: son Rex Alva Toney of Pinos Altos; daughter Diane Irene (Toney) Fenner of Hobbs; son Kevin Austin Toney and wife, Annette, of Arenas Valley; and son Mark Avery Toney, also of Arenas Valley. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Zack Toney of Farmington, Wayne Toney (Megan) of Silver City, Elijah Toney (Maigan) of Arenas Valley, Justin Toney of Santa Clara, Elyse Toney of Bayard, Erin Toney of New York, Kristen Toney of Arenas Valley, and Smith Fenner of Hobbs; four great-grandchildren, Dominique Kirker of Silver City, Carlos Toney of Farmington, and Braidyn Toney and Martin Avery Cook of Arenas Valley; brothers, Ray Dibble (Audrey) of Wisconsin Rapids, Glen Dibble (Sharon) of Ahwahnee, Calif., and George Dibble Jr. of Pittsville, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the High Desert Humane Society, P.O. Box 1973, Silver City, NM 88062, are requested.
