Emma Mae Monk Barker passed away on Sunday March 1, 2015 in Deming NM at 102 years of age.

She was born in Red River Co Clarksville Texas the oldest of eight children to Daniel Goff and Bertha Letha Leona (Wilson) Monk.

She grew up along the Red River as her family was involved in farming there for many years.

She met Joe Bailey Barker of Blanchard, Ok in her late teens. They were married on her 18th birthday, May 24th 1930 in Chickasha, TX.

Emma, beloved matriarch of the family was well known for her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens; as well as her good cooking. Her recipes have been handed down and treasured. She and Joe were farmers and during her early years of raising her family she was very involved in the community. Emma was an active member of the Valley View Presbyterian church in Cotton City, NM for twenty years. As a founding member of the So Sew club, she was attributed with the naming of it. This group of ladies were instrumental in keeping families abreast of valuable homemaking skills. Emma was an excellent seamstress, was an avid reader, and always had a book close by.

After leaving the Valley she and Joe along with their two youngest daughters moved to Missouri, where they owned and managed dairy farms, after a time in Wickenburg AZ and Valiant Oklahoma she and Joe retired to Deming Luna Co NM.

Emma is survived by her children, Shirley Jo (Jim) Cox of Portal AZ, Ossie (Carolyn) Barker of Gallup NM, Owen (Elizabeth) Barker of Deming NM, Quanah (Loyal) Roark of Portal AZ, and Vinita (Fred) Dollarhide of Deming NM. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Shirley (Tibbs) Barker. 12 grandchildren, Bobby, Terry, Jolene, Colleen, Leslie, Quint, Duane, Laurie, Marcus, Jason, Fred Jr and Wyatt. 32 great grandchildren, and 29 great-great grandchildren. Her sister, Essie Juett Monk Morrison, and Joes brother and sister, Richard Wayne Barker and Margaret Caroline Bugli all of California, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Joe Bailey Barker; their sons, O'niel Barker, JB Barker and grandchildren, Frank Colton Cox, Loye Lee Roark Hernandez, Jason Bailey Barker, Stephen Carl Waites and step-grandson, Augustus Michael Frie and granddaughter-in-law, Heather Ann Alberti Williams. Her two brothers, Daniel and Jimmie and four sisters, Arvada, Myrtle, Semmie and Pauline along with seven brothers and sisters-in-law, Rube, Allen, Claude, Robert, Wesley Barker and Gladys Barker Haworth Wells, her parents named above and her mother and father-in-law, Marshall Grover Cleveland and Carrie Frances (Shultz) Barker.

As a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses faith since 1979 her graveside services on Saturday morning March 7, 2015 at 10 o'clock at Mountain View Cemetery in Deming will be officiated by Brother Charles Mann of the Kingdom Hall of Deming NM. She will be interred in her final resting place next to her husband Joe who preceded her in 1988.

She will be greatly missed and was well loved by her large family. Her advice and counsel was always appreciated. Our family gatherings will never be the same. Sincere thanks to those who were her friend and showed kindness to her during her retirement, all those from her life's journey who have kept in contact with her over the years.

A man doesn't plant a tree for himself. He plants for posterity.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bobby Barker, Terry Barker, Quint Roark, Duane Williams, Marcus Williams, Jason Barker, Fred Dollarhide Jr and Wyatt Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers are great grandsons, Justin Barker, Tyson Williams, Landon Williams, Stephen Waites, Norman Waites, Chris Waites, Cory Barker, Brent Barker, Chanse Mansfield, Colton Barker, Justin C Barker, Jerron Genack, Dylan Hernandez, Kyle Williams, Cory Williams, Brandon Williams, Zachary Williams, and Alex Kwasigroch.
