Eugenio BarrioEugenio G. Barrio Jr., 89, a longtime resident of Lordsburg was called home to rest on Saturday March 28, 2015 at Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City. Visitation will be Monday evening April 6, 2015 from 5 to 6 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church where a prayer vigil will begin at 6 o'clock to be led by Maria Cuca Valdez. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday morning at 10 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Fr. Roberto Barreto officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Shakespeare Cemetery.

"Chumbo" as many knew him, was born March 22, 1926 in Deming to Eugenio and Francisca (Gomez) Barrio. He has lived most of life in Lordsburg and over the years worked at Southern Pacific Railroad, the Banner Mine, Brown & Root and Bowen.

Chumbo was known for his hard work ethics and also for his whistling talents. He enjoyed working around the house and dancing at family gatherings. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nieves C. Barrio of Lordsburg; his children, Margaret Belanger (Tommy) of Las Cruces, Maria Newell (George) of Lordsburg, Jose A. Barrio (Frances) of Lordsburg, Oscar Barrio (Robyn) of Morenci, AZ, and Diana Gandara (Ronnie) of Glendale, AZ; his sister, Clara B. Diaz of Lordsburg; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Thomas Belanger, George Newell Jr., Gabriel Newell, Vincent Barrio, Victor Barrio, and R.J. Gandara. Honorary bearers are Ricky Barrio, Bobby Fajardo, Arturo Diaz, Eddie Diaz, German Barrio, Ricky Barrio, and Freddy M. Barrio.
