Josephine Flores 02Josephine "Josie" Beltran Flores went to her eternal rest Sunday, May 10, 2015. She was 92 years old and had been ill for a few years.

She was born in Vera Cruz, Mexico on March 26, 1923, and was brought as a child to the United States during the Mexican Revolution by her mother, Jesusita M. Urbelz. She grew up near Lordsburg, NM and graduated from Hurley High School in Hurley, NM in 1940. She had the distinction of being one of a handful of Hispanic women to graduate from high school in those times. She married Edward V. Flores in April of 1941. They proceeded to have six children.

She was active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard, NM. She was always an avid reader and kept up with the local news in the daily local newspaper. After her children were grown, Josephine worked at Ft. Bayard as a Nursing Assistant, and after that, living in California for awhile, went to work as a teacher's assistant.

In her retired years she enjoyed doing crafts, including making rag dolls and sewing other items for the family. She also made many strands of beaded necklaces for everyone in the family. She always, always enjoyed and loved being with her grandchildren until her illness took over.

She is survived by one sister, Frances V. Genera (John) of Riverside, CA.; her children, Diane Diaz (Monte Ross) and Diane's two children, Dolores Jo Oxarart (Scott) and Tina Marie Diaz (Manuel Fernandez); a daughter, Lilly Polanco widow of Lencho Polanco and their four children, Charlotte Udero, Janette Polanco (Adam Rodriguez), Francisco "Pancho" Polanco and Bernadette Polanco (Jeff Castillo); a daughter, Lucy Cardona (Narciso) and their daughter, Felisa Cardona Smith (Walter); a son, Edward Flores (Barbara Maestas) and their children, Jennifer Banegas (Leonard) and Nathanael "Nate" Flores (Amanda); a son, Samuel Flores (Linda) and a daughter, Patricia Sanchez (Marcelino) and their daughter Anna Marie Aeloiza (Eddy); fifteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, her loving husband, Edward V. Flores ('99); one grandchild, Craig Diaz; her brother, Richard M. Beltran.

Visitation will be Friday, May 15 from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the holy rosary to begin at 6pm with Frances Genera reciting. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, May 16 at 9am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Father Paulus Kao officiating. Concluding services interment will follow at Memory Lane cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nathanael "Nate" Flores, Josiah Nañez, Francisco Polanco, Tony Silva, Walter Smith, and John Genera Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Gomez, Enrique Tafoya and Marcelino Sanchez.
