Ruben VasquezRuben S. Vasquez, Sr., 73, a resident of Silver City was called from this earth by his Lord and Savior and was very fortunate to be blessed and guided by La Virgen de Guadalupe to his well deserved and earned place in that everlasting dwelling in heaven on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Sierra Medical Center in El Paso, Texas surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 17 2015 at 5 O'clock in the evening at Baca's Funeral Chapels. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 6 O'clock by Deacon David Castnanon. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 18, 2015 at 11 O'clock in the morning at St. Francis Newman Center Parish. Concluding services and interment will follow at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery, Father Marcos O. Reyna officiating.

He was born October 7, 1941 to Josefa Sandoval and Pedro Vasquez in Santa Rita. He was a very loving, caring and the most considerate and compassionate person you could encounter. He loved his wife, children, and all his grandchildren immensely and unconditionally and he had a very special love for the apple of his eyes, a gift from God, his daughter Mindy. His brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and his numerous friends also meant the world to him and he was always there for them especially throughout the most difficult times of their life. He never thought twice about giving you the shirt of his back and never expected anything in return. He was a roofer by trade and most recently he was very active and a volunteer in his parish church. He enjoyed watching game shows, sports and always loved to listen to music and going to the casinos. He also used to like to detail cars and always kept his vehicles sparkling clean. His kind and compassionate being will never be forgotten. He will be genuinely missed and will forever remain in our hearts and thoughts.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Alma A. Vasquez of the family home, his children Josie V. Leyba of Carlsbad, Ruben Vasquez Jr. And wife Mary Alice, Edward Vasquez and companion Judy Turrieta, Richard "Rick" Vasquez and wife Linda, Amanda "Mindy" Vasquez, and Elizabeth "Lisa" Vasquez and companion Joe Gandara all of Silver City. His grandchildren Martin Leyba(Anna), Isabel Navarrette (Robbi), Alexis Rae Vasquez, Vanessa Vasquez, Michelle Vasquez, Renee Vasquez, Richard Ray Vasquez (Jandi) and Isaiah Vasquez Gandara and great-grandchildren, Tommy Leyba, Amaya Leyba, Asia Vasquez, Sophia Vasquez, Adrianna Vasquez and Armando Caballero Jr. And 2 two step great grandchildren; Elijah and Andrew Navarrette Also surviving him is his brother Rudy "Opie" Vasquez and wife Shirley, his godchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Pedro A. and Josefa S. Vasquez, a granddaughter Ashley Nichole Vasquez, son-in-law Jesus Leyba and his brothers and sisters Manuel Vasquez, Ramona Cordova, Cecilia "Chila" Vasquez, Sarah Vasquez, Robert "Beto" Vasquez, Delfina Vasquez, Josephine "Fita" Aguilar, Celia Jemmings and Frank "Kiko" Vasquez.

Serving as casket bearers are Martin Leyba, Tommy Leyba, Alexis Rae Vasquez, Vanessa Vasquez, Richard Ray Vasquez, Isaiah V. Gandara, Rudy "Opie" Vasquez, Leo Mares and Bobby Rangel. Honorary bearers listed are Severo Granado, Frank "Giggs" Gonzales, Adolfo Marquez, Eddie Rangel, Mickey Grado, Albert Sanchez, Tony Delgado, Ben "Venti" Martinez, Manuel "Meme" Martinez, Ruben Abeyta, Arthur "Tudy" Cordova, Gilbert Rodriguez, Peter Vasquez, Johnny Vigil, Sam Juarequi, Manuel Rodriguez Jr. And all his remaining friends and family.
