O L SuggsO. L. "SLIM" SUGGS, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday June 18, 2015 at the age of 98.

Visitation will begin Wednesday morning June 24, 2015 at 9 at Baca's Funeral Chapel with the funeral service at 10 o'clock. Darrell L. Witmer, Pastor will officiate. Following the service, Slim will be laid to rest alongside his late wife at Mountain View Cemetery.

Slim served his country as a U. S. Army Sergeant in the 927 Signal Battalion during World War II. He was a 60 year resident of Deming and worked at Columbus Electric Co-op for 32 years, where he came into contact with people he admired and enjoyed, and where he formed lifelong friendships. He was a simple man who loved to tell a good story and whose greatest joy was his family.

Slim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nellie Worden Suggs; his father and mother, Mont and Monnie Suggs; 2 brothers, Delmar and Elmont Suggs and his son, Ronald Shoemaker.

He is survived by 7 children, Robert Shoemaker, Carolyn Gumfory, John Shoemaker, Richard Suggs, Joline Lujan, Michael Suggs and Tina Weatherly, and their families; his sister, Martha Joe Cook and her family; and longtime friend and companion, Fern Downing; his great-grandson, Michael "Andy" Madrid, was his caregiver and constant companion during his last years with the assistance of his final four-legged buddy, Molly. Slim was a proud grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather to 24 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. In addition, he nurtured and embraced as his own many other children he came to know.
