PeteGonzales 220wPete Gonzales, 97, a lifelong resident of Gila, NM entered eternal rest Friday, July 17, 2015 in Silver City, NM. He was born February 16, 1918 in Mimbres, NM to Cesario Gonzales and Transcita Sanchez.

Pete is survived by his son, Raul (Connie) of Greenwood Canyon, NM; the mother of his daughters Isidra of Silver City; daughters, Betty Sierra and Dora G. Sierra (Robert) all of Silver City; son, Eloy of Albuquerque; and daughter, Moni Cornwell (Pat) of Las Cruces. He leaves behind nineteen grandchildren; fifty-one great-grandchildren and nineteen great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Dolores (Lola) Gonzales; his sister, Ramona Polanco; son-in-law, Polo Sierra Jr; and granddaughter, Misty Gonzales.

Services to celebrate Pete's life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Terrazas Funeral Chapel with public viewing beginning at 5pm, followed by the Holy Rosary being recited by Dr. Gilbert Arizaga at 6pm. Mass of the Christian burial begins at 10am on Saturday, July 25 at St. Francis Newman Center in Silver City. Father Tony Basso will serve as the celebrant. Pete will be laid to rest at the Gila Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kohl Whiteman, Bryan Sierra, Robert Dean Sierra, Rodney Sierra, A.J. Duran, Alfred Castro, Brett Allen-Gonzales and Gilbert Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be the remaining granddaughters and grandsons, Jerry Woodrow, Robbie Birch, Robert C. McDonald, Donnie Stailey, Jerry Woodward, David Villagran, Pat Gutierrez and Salvador (Shorty) Gutierrez, Gabriel Hernandez and Dr. John Stanley.
