GenevaPenaGeneva L. Pena, 81, entered eternal rest in her home with family by her side on Friday, July 17, 2015. Born in Sherman, NM on March 20, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Juan Leyba and Juana Leyba.

After many years working in laundry services and as a manager at Gateway Motel she retired in 1988. She enjoyed hunting, camping, dancing, cutting wood, and spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren. She will be truly missed by family and friends leaving dear, warm, and special memories.

She is survived by her husband Fred S. Pena, daughter Esther Pena (and Tommy) of Las Cruces, granddaughters Taneil Tanuz (and Julian) of Albuquerque, Dawndarie Lopez (and Joshua) of Las Cruces, and great-grandchildren Nathaniel, Jeremiah, Brandon, Jovan, Gilbert, Emalyn, and Joshua. Sisters Dessie Pena (and Manuel), Yolanda Schmelza (and Roger), brother Albert Leyba, brother-in-law Toby Perez, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Juan Leyba (1956), mother Juana Leyba (2005), brother Johnny Leyba (2009), sisters Toni Perez (2004) and Josie Dominguez (2011), sister-in-law Esperanza Leyba (2015), and nephews Toby Perez Jr. (2001), Frank Pena (2002), and Carlos Dominguez (2003).

Funeral services provided by Baca's Funeral Chapels will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard, NM on Friday, July 24, 2015. Serving as Pallbearers are Brandon Lopez, Jeremiah Lopez, Nathaniel Rodriguez, Joshua A. Salas, Julian Velasquez, and Tommy Chavez. Honorary bearers will be Joshua R. Salas, Emalyn Velasquez, Gilbert Barela, and Jovan Torrez. Rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will proceed at San Juan (Sherman) Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
