James "Jim" W. Mooring - husband, father, brother, and friend - went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at home in Mimbres, NM at the age of 70.

Jim was born in Anson, TX on October 14, 1944, to Jessie Thomas "T" and Amanda Josephine (Shipman) Mooring. He graduated from Roswell High School and studied Civil Engineering at Eastern New Mexico University. After moving to Oklahoma City, he met his sweetheart, Debra (Chowning) Mooring, at a singles Sunday school class at First Southern Baptist Church in 1975. The couple married two years later, on February 12, 1977 at First Southern Baptist Church in Del City, OK.

Married for 38 years, Jim and Debra raised their two children, Sara and Wade, in Oklahoma City, OK. He worked at Oklahoma University College of Medicine as the Patient Accounts Director. After the couple's retirement in 2004, they moved to Mimbres, NM to be close to the mountains, forests, wildlife, and hunting that Jim loved so much. He was an avid collector of antiques and loved to hunt and fish with family and friends.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Debra Mooring; his children, Sara (Mooring) Collins, and her husband Ben Collins, of Oakland, CA and Wade Mooring of Edmond, OK; brother, Mike Mooring of Roswell, NM; sister, Jo Ann (Mooring) Joy and husband Dwayne Joy of Tahlequah, OK; nephews, Travis Joy of Las Vegas, NV, Jared Joy of Capitan, NM, Matt Mooring of Louisville, KY, Clay Mooring of Paintsville, KY; and niece Molly Mooring of Louisville, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Thomas "T" and Amanda Josephine (Shipman) Mooring of Roswell, NM; brother, Tommy Mooring of Louisville, KY; and uncle Thomas Shipman of Brownfield, TX. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Jim will be remembered for his gentleness and wise spirit, his devotion to his wife, his wonderful off-key singing of Summertime to his kids, his skills with a rifle, and his love for God. Possessing a true servant's heart, Jim served as a deacon at Rio Mimbres Baptist Church. He was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty and peace that would await him after his journey here on earth, walking with his Lord and Savior.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 11:00 am at Rio Mimbres Baptist Church, 29 Cactus Drive, Mimbres, NM 88049, with a luncheon to follow. Bob Blacker will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jim's life.
