RamonRenteria rsRamon V. Renteria, 97 former resident of Lordsburg, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015 at home in Albuquerque, NM surrounded by his loving family.

The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 O'clock in the evening Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lordsburg. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 O'clock in the morning Wednesday, August 19, 2015 followed by concluding services and interment at Shakespeare Cemetery officiated by Father John Weber.

Ramon was born August 18, 1917 in Valedon, NM to Bernardo P. and Petra (Varela) Renteria, both are deceased. At a very young age Ramon and family moved to Shakespeare where they lived for a short time. They then moved to Lordsburg, where he lived for the majority of his life. Ramon was an underground miner for approximately 30 years, working around Lordsburg and the Bayard area. When the mines closed he worked for the New Mexico Highway Department for 12 years before retiring. He served in the United States Army as a Technician 5th Grade (Armorer) from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was stationed in Germany at the close of World War II. He married his beloved wife of 66 years, Petra J. Estrada (deceased) and together they raised four children. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge #1813 for 44 years. He enjoyed sports, hunting, camping, horseracing, reading and reminiscing with family and friends. Ramon will be greatly missed but will live on through the many wonderful memories in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered by his favorite expression "tu sabes"

Survivors and spouses are his daughters Yolanda (Curt) Dechert of Reno, NV and Irma (Leo) Madrid of Albuquerque, his sons Ray (Patricia) Renteria of Albuquerque, Ernesto P. (Carolyn Renteria of Tijeras, NM. He is also survived by five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, his sisters-in-law Bessie Renteria and Petra Estrada and brother-in-law Don Estrada.

Ramon's now deceased family consisted of brothers Juan, Isidro, Jose and Adolpho Verdugo and sister Aurora Verdugo Saucedo, as well as Benny, Frank Sr. And Daniel Sr. Renteria.

Pallbearers were David and Frankie Estrada, Freddie Ramirez, Rene Saucedo, Manny Jr. And Richard Renteria.
