NeldaMarshall RSNelda A. Marshall, 100, went to be with her Lord, Monday, October 12, 2015 at Fort Bayard Medical Center.

She was born September 29, 1915, near Ringgold, Louisiana, to James Robert and Mary Lizzie (Nelson) McDonald. In May 1923, they moved to Hurley, (in a Model "T").

She attended school in Hurley, graduating from Hurley High in May 1933, then worked in the Hurley High's Superintendent's office as a clerk for the 1933-34 school years.

She was a charter member of the Order of Rainbow Girls, Hurley Assembly No. 9 and went through the chairs.

She married John W. (Sonny) Marshall, (a Santa Rita native), June 6, 1934. He was a semi-pro baseball pitcher. He pitched for Las Cruces and Silver City teams, then in 1936, they moved to Madrid, NM where the Madrid Miners won the Central NM League Championship. In 1937, they came back "home" and Sonny went to work in Hurley.

Nelda was very active in the Hurley Community Church for about 75 years. She also worked for Chino Mines in Hurley from 1954 to 1976. She worked as a clerk in the Warehouse office and the Safety office and then, retired as Employee Services Clerk in Industrial Relations.

Nelda resided at Fort Bayard Medical Center for about three and a half years.

She celebrated her "100th Birthday", September 29, 2015. She was presented with certificates from Gov. Susana Martinez, U.S. Rep Steve Pearce and U.S. Sen. Tom Udall.

She was preceded in death by her husband Sonny Marshall in 1989, a grandson, James Clayton Marshall March 2007 and a great-great grandson, John Matthew Marshall August 2015.

Nelda has one son, Everett (Karen), five grandchildren, Carree O'Conner (Jim), Nena Chisum (Boyd), Holly Montano, Cliff Marshall and James Marshall (Mary), nineteen great-grandchildren and twenty-eight great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be celebrated Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 2:00pm at Indian Hills Baptist Church with Julius Washington officiating.

Inurnment will take place at Memory Lane Cemetery. Cremation has taken place at Terrazas Crematory.
