PaulaPelayo RSPaula A. Chip Pelayo, 93 a Hurley resident went to be with God, Saturday, October 31st, 2015 at Ft. Bayard Medical Center surrounded by all her family.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 6 O'clock in the evening at Baca's Funeral Chapels with the Holy Rosary recited by Deacon Jerry Miller at 7 O'clock. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 in the morning Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Infant Jesus Shrine officiating is Father Roberto Barreto. Concluding services and interment will follow at Hurley Cemetery.

Paula was born August 18th, 1922 in Columbus, NM to Seferino and Luz (Ponce) Amalla. She lived through the Great Depression Era that was very hard on her and her family. She married Juan Chip in 1938. They moved to Hurley, NM in 1940 and raised three children. She became a widow at the age of 33 and raised her three kids on her own. She worked at Marvels Department Store, Toggery Clothing Store, Texas Store and the Bayard Appliances. In 1966, She married Paul Pelayo and added two step children, Jeannie and Norman to the family. They had 28 wonderful years together. She was very devoted Catholic and went to church every day at Hurley Infant Jesus Church until her health declined. She was a loving, dedicated mother and grandmother. In 2006, she had an accident and was diagnosed with dementia. She suffered with Alzheimer's disease for 9 years.

She is survived by two wonderful daughters, Anita Rodriguez and her husband A.C. Rodriguez and her daughter Bertha Marin and her husband Joe Marin and one special daughter in-law Julia Chip. She was blessed with six grandchildren Johnny Chip and his wife Margaret Chip, Paul Chip, Adam Marin, Jolene Delgado and her husband Pete Delgado, Gilbert Rodriguez, Kevin Rodriguez and his companion Laurie West. She was also blessed with ten great grandchildren, Jessica Tarin and her husband Curtis, Justin Arrey and his companion Angela Trujillo, Katrina Chip, Zachary Chip, Bryanda Delgado, Santos Valenzuela , Alyssa Rodriguez, JR, Sara, and Adriana Rodriguez. She was also blessed with two great-great grandchildren, Dante Chip Buse and Xavier Arrey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Seferino and Luz Amalla, her brothers, Alejandro and Frank Amalla, her son, Juan Angel Chip, and her husbands Juan Chip and Paul Pelayo.

Serving as Pallbearers are Adam Marin, Johnny Chip, Paul Chip, Kevin Rodriguez, Pete Delgado and Justin Arrey. Honorary Pallbearers are as follows: Ft. Bayard staff unit C, all her god-daughters, god-sons and all her comadres and compadres.
