RobertaMcCalmonRoberta Rose McCalmon, of Lordsburg, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. She was 75.

Roberta was born January 4, 1940 in Mt. Zion, Missouri, to Robert and Annis Shepherd and raised in rural Missouri. She met her soon to be husband, Billy Roy McCalmon, in high school and were married on the 18th of August, 1957. Together they had three children, Truitt, Monique and Trent. She and her children moved to New Mexico in 1978 after visiting her sister in Deming. She loved the people and the climate and decided to relocate. They moved to Lordsburg in 1983 where she worked for Western New Mexico Telephone Company for many years before retiring. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and most recently her great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Annis Shepherd; her husband Billy McCalmon; and two sisters, Elda Johnson and Thelma Phillips.

She is survived by her sons, Truitt and Trent McCalmon, of Lordsburg; daughter, Monique and her husband Bruce, of Sumter, South Carolina;eight grandchildren, Brent, Tenette (Glass), Bethany and Savannah McCause; Rory, Cale, Dillon and August McCalmon; and six great grandchildren, Rainen and Emery McCalmon, DeLainee and Michael McCalmon and Adelle and Logan Glass. She is also survived by two of sisters, Virginia Marshall and Wanita Carter, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, November 6th at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Lordsburg. Interment will be immediately following at Mountain View Cemetery in Lordsburg. Pallbearers are Rory McCalmon, Cale McCalmon, Terry Seats, Michael Hood, Duane Brojer, and Morgan O'donnell. Honorary Pallbearers are Dillon McCalmon, Brent McCause, Bruce McCause, and Phil Walsmith. Afterword, please join us for a reception to celebrate the life of our wonderful mother on the lawn at Terry's Motel (Corner of Motel Dr. and Main St.).
