James Franklin Hurt, 72, a longtime resident of Deming passed away Saturday January 16, 2016.

James was born July 2, 1943 in Carthage, Missouri to Walter and Lois (Danner) Hurt.

He served his country honorably in the United States Navy and after earning his teaching degree he taught school in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and locally in Bayard, Deming, and most recently at the Tierra Blanca Ranch. During his tenure he taught AG, Drivers Education, and was also a bus driver for some time in Hot Springs. He was also an excellent leatherworker, was good at talking politics and was a jack of all trades. James enjoyed his family and friends and especially loved being with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons, Jason Hurt of Stephensville, TX, Justin Hurt (Faith) of Granbury, TX; brother, Alvin "Al" Hurt of Katy, TX; sister, Kay Chandler (Clyde) of Deming; aunt, Ina Hurt of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Brianna, Noah, Layla, and Ezra; nieces, Ellen Sobak, Claire Chandler, nephews, Scott and Clint Chandler, Roy Scott Chandler, and David Chandler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and recently by his wife, Barbara Hurt.

Visitation will be Friday morning at 9:30 at the First Baptist Church where funeral services will begin at 10:30 with Scott Chandler, his nephew, officiating. Interment will be at the Tierra Blanca Ranch.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Chandler, Marvin Clary, Timothy Roberson, Taylor Myers, Lalo Chavez, and Frank Morgan.
