Ernest D. Melendrez, 91 of Silver City, NM formerly of Las Vegas, Nevada passed Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Fort Bayard Medical Center.

Mr. Melendrez was born February 25, 1925 in Hanover, NM to Lucas and Petra Melendrez.

Ernest moved from Silver City at a very early age and later joined the U.S. Army. He resided in Las Vegas, Nevada after his discharge and lived there until 2011 when he returned to Silver City to be closer to his family.

Mr. Melendrez is survived by two sons, Ernest and Ricky Melendrez of Arizona, 1 brother Mike Melendrez(Leona), 2 sisters, Nora Baca, and Nina Altamirano and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Abel, Valentino, and Danny Melendrez. He was greatly loved and sorely missed by all.

A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Saint Francis Newman Center on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11:30am with Father Anthony Basso. Inurnment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
