Jack Carter Hill, 95, went to join his wife of 70 years, Alice, on April 20, 2016.

He was a WWII Navy veteran, trained as a fighter pilot. He flew 37 bombing sorties in three tours in the South Pacific on the ship Sangamon, than became a trainer of pilots until the end of the war. After the war, he returned to Silver City, where he helped his father operate Hill's Court until his father retired.

He then taught math at Cobre and La Plata Jr. High, and was principal of Silver High for 4 years. He coached math teams, taking them to State competitions, and had a fly-tying club.

He coached Little League for ten years with Murray Ryan, and was chosen to attend a computer programming training, along with Coach Fox, in Denver in the 60s.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, jewelry making and carpentry; but his lifelong love was golf. Upon his retirement, he spent another 12 years working part time in the pro shop at the Silver City Golf Course. He played three days a week with the Social Security Swingers until he was 92.

He is survived by one sister, Ethel Battishill of Albuquerque; his three children, Bobbi Quinn, John and Scott (Barbara), all of Silver City; three grandchildren, Michelle Landry (David), Christopher Hill (Rebecca), Kristen Madrid (Michael) and two great grandchildren, Alexis and Noah.

He will be remembered for his gentle strength, integrity and love of his family and will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to a charity of their choice.

A Graveside Service with full military honors will take place at Fort Bayard National Cemetery on Monday, May 2 at 11am.

Honorary pallbearers will be his sons, John and Scott Hill, his grandsons, Chris Hill and David Landry and nephews, Allen and Angus Campbell.

Cremation has taken place at Terrazas Crematory.
