Hilario Chavez 1 rsHilario Chavez 2 rsHilario J. Chavez, 91, a Fort Bayard Medical Center resident entered eternal rest Tuesday, July 19, 2016.

He was born January 2, 1925 in Santa Rita, NM to Aurelio Chavez and Margarita Juarez.

He proudly served his country with the U. S. Army during WWII.

He is survived by one son, Andres "Andy" Chavez (Dolly) of Hanover; like a son, Marcos Gonzales Jr.; three daughters, Margie Quejada of Hanover; Mary Chavez of Hanover; Nana Chavez of Austin, TX; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; one brother, Gabriel Chavez and companion Antony of Tucson, AZ; one sister, Juanita Escobar of Silver City; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Ynacia "Nacha" Moreno Chavez '09; one son, Richard Chavez; a grandson, Joshua Herrera; a brother, Tomas Chavez; a sister, Suzan "Susie" Apodaca.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 28 from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil and holy rosary to begin at 6pm with Dr. Gilbert Arizaga reciting. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, July 29 at 9:30am at Holy Family in Hanover with Father Paulus Kao officiating. Concluding service an interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Richard Chavez Jr., Andy Chavez Jr., Mando Chavez, Gilbert Rodriguez Jr., Victor Placencio Jr. and Rico Castro. Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph and Freddie Chavez, David, Manuel and Louie Escobar Jr. and Leo Torres.
