Old Monje rsYoung Monje rsJose "Joe" Reyes Monje, 84, a resident of Gila, NM entered eternal rest Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Gila Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 18, 1932 in Lordsburg, NM to Francisco C. Monje and Antonia Velez.

Mr. Monje proudly served his country with the U. S. Army. He was a member of the International Ironworkers of America Local 75 of Phoenix, AZ.

He was well known in Gila for his hot green chile and zooming around on his Kawaski mule.

He loved to talk and visit with all his neighbors and friends. He spoiled his donkey and dogs, traveled all over the United States during his military iron working days.

He loved to spend time with his family making French toast for family breakfast and was always ready to help anyone. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 yrs., Helen Medrano Monje of the family home; two daughters, Maria Garcia (Gilbert) of Gila; Marci Chambers of Gila; four grandchildren, Gibby and Gabriel Garcia; Reyes Silva and Gracie Placencio; nine great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Nikki, Carlos, Domonique, Jalah, Fabian, Ariana, Cedric and Aeneas; one great-great grandson, John Anthony.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons, Reyes, Frankie and Stevie Monje; one brother, Manuel Monje; two sisters, Lilly Salaiz and Francisca Cruz.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 6 from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil and rosary to begin at 6pm with Deacon Bill Holguin reciting. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 7 at 10am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Oliver officiating. Concluding service an interment will follow at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Gibby, Gabriel, Reyes, Cedric, Fabian, Aeneas and Ariana. Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Garcia, Bobbie Salaiz, Bobo Titone, Mickey Grado and the rest of his family and friends.
