Patricia "Patty" Rae Smith, 72, of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest on Monday, September 12, 2016 at her residence after a long battle of cancer, surrounded by her family.

Patty was born May 23, 1944 to Clarence (Slick) and Velma Rendleman in Silver City.

She was a courageous warrior.

She was born and raised in Silver City and attended schools here as well, including WNMU. She graduated in 1962 from Western High School.

She lived most of her life in Silver City and was self-employed with her husband of 37 1/2 years, Rick, as owners of Smith Drilling Company. She also worked part-time for Lusk Flower Shop and various other businesses as a favor to the owners when it was needed.

She was an avid gardener and loved being outside and working in her yard and her vegetable garden. She had the prettiest yard and flowers and fruit trees in town.

She spent her time as a homemaker making jams and jellies and taking care of her family and home. She was very involved in her church, family as well and made a tremendous effort to attend her weekly meetings and attend church as often as possible.

She went over and above the call of duty to make every luncheon and dinner she was involved in beautiful with her flower decorations. She spread beauty and love wherever she went. Patty was a kind, compassionate and very intelligent woman with determination in everything she pursued...including extending her own life way beyond what was expected.

She is survived by her husband, Richard (Rick) Smith; her sons, Doug Kuester and wife Linda; Derek Kuester and wife Tiffany; Rick's son, Breck Smith; her sister, Bonnie Inan and her husband Kevin of Phoenix, AZ; her grandchildren, Jazlyn Kuester, Josh Kuester, Scott Kuester, Taylor Smith, Ashley Kuester and Cassidy Kuester.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Donnie Rendleman and Rick's daughter, Wendy Smith.

A Graveside Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 14 at Memory Lane cemetery. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at a later date.
