Ruth Jean Froiland, 91, of Silver City passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Gila Regional Medical Center.

Ruth Jean was born on December 15, 1924 in Pasadena, California to Eugene Ranson and Irene Erickson.

Ruth started teaching in 1946 and a year later she was married to Lloyd Froiland.

Ruth attended the University of Laverne and she was the first woman to become the student body president. This was a big accomplishment for her.

She loved teaching all ages, but her true calling was teaching children in junior high.

After moving to Silver City 15 years ago, Ruth participated in numerous writing and book groups. She also volunteered at the Single Socks Store as long as her health allowed.

Ruth attended the First Presbyterian Church, Valley Community Church and the Silver City United Church of Christ.

Ruth is survived by two sons, Thomas Froiland of Silver City NM, John Froiland of Burnsville, NC; one daughter Elizabeth Baca of Springerville, AZ; one brother Richard Ranson of Sacramento, CA; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd and a sister, Barbara Davis.

Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Silver City Crematory. A Memorial Service will take place at 1:30 pm on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church at 1915 N. Swan St. in Silver City, NM.
