Mary Esther Cardoza, 85, a former resident of Silver City, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 surrounded by family at her residence in Riverside, California.

Mary Esther was born on February 26, 1931, to Jesus and Guadalupe Carmona Cardoza in Hurley, New Mexico.

Mary was a graduate of Western New Mexico University, and taught elementary school for thirty-three years. As a retired teacher, Mary loved gardening, reading and spending time with her many nephews and nieces, but most of all, happy hour with her sister Rose.

She possessed a sweet and simple demeanor and a constant smile. Mary was a devout catholic and enjoyed praying the Rosary with Sister Angelica.

Mary will be remembered most for her generosity, loving kindness, sense of humor, and her great attitude of life. She will be greatly missed by all her family.

Mary is survived by her brother Joe G. Cardoza, her sister Rosa Carbajal and husband Raymond of Riverside, CA; a brother Albert Cardoza and wife Alicia, sister Linda Cardoza, a brother Luis Cardoza and his wife Rowena of Silver City and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus Cardoza and Guadalupe Carmona Cardoza.

Cremation has taken place in Riverside, California. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 6 o'clock in the evening at Baca's Funeral Chapels. The Funeral Liturgy will take place on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 10 o'clock in the morning at The Shrine and Parish of Infant Jesus in Hurley with Father Roberto Barreto officiating. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow and Hurley Cemetery.
