Bill Goodin rsBill Goodin Jr., 86, of Silver City and formerly of Las Cruces, went to be with the Lord and the love of his life, Dorothy, at his residence on Tuesday, October 11, 2016.

Bill was born December 11, 1929 in Byers, Texas to W.M. and Evie Rash Goodin.

As a young man, Bill helped on the family farm, worked in cotton gins and hauled hay.

He met Dorothy Hicks and they married on November 14, 1947 in El Paso, Texas. Bill and Dorothy were blessed with three children, Janet, Robert and Karen. They lived in Dallas, TX; Alamogordo, NM and finally settled in Las Cruces, NM where he worked for Rainbow Bread and built his own, very successful, Morton Foods distributorship.

He was well known as the potato chip man and loved meeting and serving people. Dorothy and Bill worked in this business for twenty one years.

During those years, he was active in the H Bar C 4H Club, where his home was the meeting place for many 4H activities.

Bill served as the "chief guide" on pack trips with the horse club. When he sold Morton Foods, Bill and Dorothy vacationed mainly at Big Lake with their grandchildren. He then became a house painter for realtors until 2003 when he totally retired.

Bill moved to Silver City in 2007 to be near his children due to health reasons. Bill and Dorothy opened their home to many people in need of a place to stay, stall their horses or just simply eat a meal.

He was a sportsman at heart, he loved hunting at his favorite spot, Cave Creek along with his best hunting buddy, Joe Bob Sellers and his fishing spots were the catwalks above Glenwood and Big Lake, Arizona. Bill was an excellent marksman and taught many people gun safety and how to shoot.

Bill is survived by his three children, Janet Ebbs (Johnny) of Tularosa, Robert Goodin (Valorie) and Karen Knight of Silver City; Seven grandchildren, Cindy Talley (Gary), Robin Flores (Toby), Justin Knight (Cheryl), Russell Knight (Tina), Dylan Knight, Bryan Goodin (Court) and Amanda Goodin; 13 great-grandchildren; also surviving is a sister, Pat Cowley of Cheyenne, Wyoming and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents, a grandson, Tim Krebs Jr.; brothers, JT and Fonza Ray; sisters, Opal Jean Phillips, Peggy Bradley and Wanda Barton.

Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Silver City Crematory. A memorial service will be held at Harvest Christian Fellowship, 1500 N Hudson St. in Silver City, NM on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 2 pm. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 2 pm at the Masonic Cemetery in Las Cruces, NM.
