James Alan Castle, 64, a longtime resident of Deming passed away Monday October 17, 2016 at his ranch in Hatch, New Mexico.

James was born May 19, 1952 in Deming to William and Bernice (Cathey) Castle.

He lived in Deming most all his life other than a few years while working in Arizona.

Locally James retired from Freeport McMorran copper mines in Tyrone, NM but what he loved most was ranching. He had learned to ranch as a young boy in southern New Mexico and continued to do so full time after retiring.

His family remembers him as quite the story teller like his "Daddy". He was also a history buff. He enjoyed telling his children and grandchildren stories of the types of people that traveled and lived on the ranch throughout the centuries while bouncing around in his pickup truck.

He always had a smile and handshake for anyone he came across and was always willing to lend a hand.

James loved being with his family and was happiest when he was horseback working his cattle. He was a true cowboy.

He is survived by his wife and soul mate of 43 wonderful years, Nancy J. Castle of Deming; sons, Will Castle (wife Renee) of Deming, Eddie Castle of Deming; daughter, Tracy Castle Diaz (husband Javier) of Las Cruces; brothers, Jack Castle (wife Angie) of Parachute, CO, Paul Castle of Hatch; sister, Aimee Castle of Rattan, OK; and 6 grandchildren.

A graveside service will be this Saturday October 29, 2016 at 11 o'clock in the morning at Mt. View Cemetery in Deming, New Mexico. Cremation has taken place.
