Michael Edward Nicholson, 64, of Tyrone passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2016 surrounded by his family after a prolonged battle with ALS.

Mike was born in Wallace, Idaho on July 4, 1952, son of Sylvia and Eugene Nicholson.

He enjoyed an adventurous childhood with his many friends, extended family and his two sisters. He was avid outdoorsman whose hobbies included cross country, skiing, hunting and fly fishing.

Michael graduated from New Mexico State University with Bachelor degrees in Geology and Engineering. He spent the majority of his working life in Gillette, Wyoming where he was a parishioner at St. Mathews Catholic Church. Afterward he worked in the mining industry at various locations before finally arriving in Grants, NM. There he worked for Peabody and was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church.

Mike is survived by his wife, Christina Nicholson; two children, April Perry (Brian) and Christopher Nicholson (Mary); two sisters, Elizabeth Garcia (Danny) and Jeanette Mitchell (John); five grandchildren, Kinsie Wheeler, Liam Wheeler, Charlotte Perry, Jesse Perry and Michael Nicholson; also surviving him, is his father-in-law, Edward Holguin, and sister-in-laws, Maria Elena Sanchez and family and Lorraine Holguin and family, many nieces and nephews and Larry Reimers whom the Nicholson's consider part of the family.

The Prayer Vigil will take place on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 6 pm led by Deacon Bill Holguin. The Funeral Liturgy will take place on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 10 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Father Oliver Obele officiating. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Funeral Chapels. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery.
