Ida S. "Nana" Ornelas, 69, a lifelong resident of Lordsburg passed away Sunday November 27, 2016 at Mt. View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.

Ida, or Nana as many knew her, was born August 27, 1947 in Lordsburg to Raymundo and Isabel (Herrera) Silvas.

She was raised in Lordsburg and worked as a cashier at the Foodliner for some time and also at the Up To Date Grocery Store for almost 20 years.

Ida enjoyed family gatherings and always liked cooking for her family.

She will always be remembered by her annual Christmas tamales that she made and shared with family and friends. Ida was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Joe R. Ornelas of Lordsburg; children, Joey R. Ornelas of Mesa, AZ, Ray S. Ornelas of Lordsburg, Gabriel M. Ornelas of Las Vegas, NV, Jacob Ornelas of Lordsburg, Melissa Ornelas of Silver City; sisters, Linda Verdugo, Estella Silvas, and Sandra Gonzalez of Lordsburg, Diana Salas of Victorville, CA; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 to 6 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church where a prayer vigil will begin at 6 o' clock led by Carlos Bejarano. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday morning at 10 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Fr. Jude Okonkwo, Pastor officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Shakespeare Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Ornelas, Zachary Ornelas, Rafael Carbajal, Ernesto Carbajal, Valente Verdugo, Mario Gonzalez and Dominic Salas.
