Aurora T. Marquez, 88, a longtime resident of Lordsburg passed away Tuesday December 13, 2016 at Sunshine Haven Nursing Home in Lordsburg.

Aurora was born January 12, 1928 in Vanadium, New Mexico to Ignacio and Paulina (Gutierrez) Tavizon. She came to Lordsburg in 1952 with her family and over the years had worked as a cook at the American Restaurant and The Range Cafe. She enjoyed quilting and especially enjoyed attending her children's athletic events. Aurora was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

She is survived by 1 son, Ray Anaya (Mary) of Peralta, NM; 2 daughter in laws, Jacinta Marquez and Rosie Marquez of Lordsburg; brother Isabel Ortega of Globe, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Aurora was preceded in death by her husband Joaquin Marquez in 1993, 2 sons, Steve T. Marquez in 2008, Joaquin Marquez in 2011, and by 2 grandchildren, Celestina Marquez and Peyton Martin.

Visitation will be Tuesday morning, December 20, 2016 at 9 o'clock at St. Joseph's Catholic Church where a prayer vigil will begin at 10 o'clock. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 o'clock at St. Joseph's Catholic church with Fr. Jude Okonkwo, Pastor officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at Shakespeare Cemetery.
