Richard Castillo Montoya, 71, of Mimbres, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Silver City Crematory. The Rosary and Prayer Vigil will be Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 11:30 in the morning followed by the Funeral Liturgy at Baca's Funeral Chapels in Silver City. Concluding Services and inurnment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery at 1 o'clock in the afternoon with full military honors. Officiating will be Deacon Art Gutierrez.

Richard was born on January 28, 1945 in San Lorenzo to Alejandro Montoya and Ynes Castillo. He served his country in the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged he was employed with the Grant County Sheriff's Department for many years. Richard also served as Bayard Chief of Police for a period of time. Richard was very proud when he found out he was part Apache. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being in the outdoors. Richard will be missed by his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his wife, Evon Lobato; sons, David Montoya (Ina) and Thomas Montoya (Christina); a daughter, Rosanne Montoya; one brother, Benny Montoya; sister, Rufina Avena; sister-in-law, Betty Cummings; grandchildren, Dominic , Nicole and Isaiah Mancha, Ella and Marisela Montoya; many nieces and nephews; close friends, Hope and family, Kate, Phil and Steve. Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his parents-in law, Moises and Rose Lobato and a sister-in-law, Edna Garcia.
