Sam Westwood rsSam D. Westwood, 73, of Silver City passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family.

Sam was born on August 3, 1943 in Santa Rita, NM to William (Bill) and Lavinia Westwood. He attended Western High School and graduated from Western New Mexico University. On August 15, 1964, he married his Junior High School sweetheart, Jean C. Barron. He and Jean raised 3 children: Sherri, John, and J.P.

Sam and Jean were lifelong residents of Silver City and were owners in the Barron-Westwood Insurance Agency, and later in the Westwood-Anderson Agency. They also owned and operated Silver Star Mobile Manor for many years.

Sam loved to spend time outdoors and was a wealth of knowledge regarding Silver City history. He coached Little League baseball for many years and was on the board of SCLL and the SHS Booster club. He was involved with any activity that interested his kids, from track to baseball, football and soccer, he was always there. He loved watching the activities of his grand- and great-grandchildren. He was well liked and respected by those who knew him, and will be greatly missed.

Sam is survived by one brother, Bill Westwood (Cathy); two sons, John and J.P. (Lisa) Westwood; one daughter, Sherri Westwood; six grandchildren, Jacob Cook, Ashley, Sammy, Madeline, Ella and Jack Westwood; two great-grandchildren, Dase and Wyatt Cook; many nieces and nephews. Sam was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Jean Barron Westwood; his parents William and Lavinia Westwood; one sister, Wilma Westwood Clark and his parents-in-law, John and Judy Barron.

Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Funeral Chapels. A Graveside Service and inurnment will be held at 11 o'clock in the morning on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Memory Lane Cemetery. Officiating will be Mr. Chuck Kelly.
