Charles Troutman rsCharles Vernon Troutman, retired professional engineer and land surveyor, passed away at his home in Mimbres Valley on February 7, 2017.

He was born August 13, 1934 to Edwin Glenn Troutman and Maude Seaton Troutman in Tucson, Arizona, graduated from Tucson High School, and from the University of Arizona College of Mines following service in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He worked a number of years for Phelps Dodge Corporation at locations in Arizona and New Mexico, both underground and above ground at Bisbee, was one of the first to staff the Tyrone Mine at its startup in the 1960's, served as resident engineer for the Hidalgo smelter project, chief engineer at Tyrone, assistant mine superintendent at Morenci and mine superintendent at Ajo.

In the early 1980's he joined Herbert L. Watkins in a land surveying practice in Silver City, later purchasing and maintaining that business until his retirement.

"Chuck", as he was known, is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 53 years, Elsie of Mimbres; a daughter, Glenda Rivera of Silver City; a daughter, Mary Gates and her husband Daniel of Pierre, South Dakota; and a son, John Troutman and his wife Marzy of Mission Viejo, California. Also surviving are his nephews Clint Troutman, and David Troutman (wife, Lindy), 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Edwin Glenn Troutman Jr., and his son-in-law, Francisco S. Rivera.

Private memorial services will be held at the family home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to favorite charities are suggested.

Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Funeral Chapels.
