Virginia Saavedra rsVirginia M. Saavedra, 86, of Silver City passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Gila Regional Medical Center.

Virginia was born on November 3, 1930 in Gila, NM to Cipriano Martinez and Angelita Lujan. Virginia was known by her loved ones as "Nini". She was a very kindhearted person who would have done anything for her family. She was always smiling and loved the laughter of the kids. Nini was a loving wife, sister and aunt and brought joy to all who were in her presence. Her smile could brighten a room and quickly turn a bad day into a good one. Nini is loved and will be greatly missed and forever hold a place in our hearts.

Virginia is survived by her brothers, Cipriano (Gloria) and Joe Martinez (Maggie); sisters, Lupe Abeyta,Frances Medina, Patty Carbajal and Priscilla Marquez (Arturo); sister-in-law, Eva Martinez; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cipriano and Angelita Martinez; spouse, Gilbert Saavedra; brother, Silverio Martinez; brothers-in-law, Ray Abeyta, Abel Medina and Rudy Carbajal.

Visitation will take place on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 6 o'clock in the evening at Baca's Funeral Chapels in Silver City. The Prayer Vigil and Rosary will follow at 7 o'clock with Deacon Bill Holguin reciting. The Funeral Liturgy will be Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 9:30 in the morning at St. Francis Newman Center. Concluding services and burial will follow at 11 o'clock in the morning at Fort Bayard National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Gilbert Saavedra. Officiating will be Father Jaroslaw Nowacki.

Serving as pallbearers will be Toby, Eddie Joe and Ronnie Martinez, Jackie Abeyta, Ralph Medina, Rene Carbajal.
