Kenneth Garvin Rogers, 76, of Silver City,Ken Rogers rsKenneth Garvin Rogers, 76, of Silver City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017 at Fort Bayard Medical Center.

Ken was born in Portales, NM to George Glynne and Ila Rhea Rogers. He was a lively boy involved in all manner of activities, including Boy Scouts, 4-H, baseball, and sports broadcasting.

Ken and his future wife met in grade school and began dating as juniors in high school. After graduating 1958, they both went on to attend Eastern New Mexico University and married in 1959. Their first daughter, Deborah, was born in Portales in 1960. After graduating college, Ken moved his family to Rexburg, ID to pursue a career in radio broadcasting. His second daughter, Jennifer, was born there in 1964. Receiving another job, Ken moved his family, this time to Alamosa, CO, where his last daughter, Rebecca, was born in 1968.

In 1969, the young Rogers family made their last move to Silver City, NM. Ken worked as a manager and sportscaster for KSIL as his family grew and began to plant roots. Ken was actively involved in Rotary International and the Silver City Church of Christ. He later dove into the insurance industry and owned his own firm, Ken Rogers and Associates. After retiring in 2002, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, avidly watching baseball, and following all sporting events.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 57.5 years, Wilma, of Silver City; a daughter, Debbie Prock of Highland Village, TX and her children Kylie and Taryn; a daughter, Jennie McCready, and her husband, Tim, of Overland Park, KS and their children Ryan, Hannah, Maggie, Connor, and Corey; a daughter, Beckie Rydeski, and her husband, Robert, of Silver City and their children Beth, Dani and Doug. And of course his loved dog, Button.

Ken's family welcomes friends to join them at 12 pm on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 for lunch at the Silver City Church of Christ located at: 1920 Little Walnut Rd, Silver City. The service will follow, beginning at 1:30 pm.
