John Claussen rsJohn L. "Jack" Claussen, 78, of Lake Roberts, NM passed away Saturday, March 3, 2017 at his residence.

He was born in Pender, Nebraska on June 5, 1939. Along with his family, he moved to Anaheim, California in 1948.

Graduating from Anaheim Union High School in 1958, he then completed a four-year course in business, becoming a member of the first graduating class at Cal State Fullerton. However, a career in business was not really to his liking and he shifted his focus to designing and building houses - first in California and later in Texas and New Mexico. He developed Bear Creek Motel and Cabins in Pinos Altos where he also served as a volunteer fireman. He expanded and managed his business for a number of years before retiring to the home he custom designed and built at Lake Roberts.

John is survived by his sister and her husband, Lois and Lyle Schroeder, his brother and his wife, Dennis and Elizabeth Claussen, his long time friend and companion, Daniel Bejarano, many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews, and his miniature Schnauzers, Hannah and Dakota.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Loraine Claussen.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made in the name of John L. Claussen to the Grant County Animal Shelter c/o The High Desert Humane Society, P.O Box 1973, Silver City, NM 88062.
