C.L. Alexander Jerome, (Alex) has died, and would tell you that he is wending his way toward Valhalla.

Born in St. Louis, MO in 1936, he was the only child of Thelma Julia Madill Jerome and Capt. Henry Joseph Saville Jerome, Royal Navy.

He spent his early childhood in St. Louis and South Africa, and at the age of nine was enrolled in Downside Abby school in England, where he remained until returning to the US to attend college. He spent his student years at Williams College and Washington University, and later the University of Maryland. He was a life-long scholar of history and language.

Alex served his country as an intelligence officer in the NRO on five continents for 25 years, surviving imprisonment and torture while insuring the security of the USA during the Cold War. He received letters of commendation from Presidents Nixon and Johnson for rescuing downed pilots in SE Asia, and was made a knight of the Aztec Eagle by the President of Mexico, the highest civilian honor. His advocacy for the democratic freedoms he believed the right of every person found its greatest expression in his love for the people of Bolivia, Cuba, Estonia, Finland, Katanga, Laos and other groups we can only guess at.

In his 35 years of retirement at Mule Creek, New Mexico, Alex and his wife Susan, kept a small ranch and founded Mule Creek Adobe, which employed many local youth for more than 15 years, manufacturing earthen building blocks, a vanishing New Mexico tradition. He enjoyed nature, his community, and the domestic animals. He was a great story teller, a generous, thoughtful man with rapier wit.

Alex was a recognized scholar of northern European heathenry, a founding clergy member and Elder Emeritus of the Troth. His love of flags (vexillology) and extensive collection will be remembered by those who saw their flag flying in welcome.

Alex is survived by his wife Susan, his sons Ramsay Jerome (Lisa), Victor Jerome,, Jose Luis Jerome and their families, daughter Jane Jerome, and grandson Blake Blewitt.

The memorial blot, (service) internment of his ashes and dedication of his Thor's Hof is being planned for later in the year.
