Katy Stevens rsKatherine "Katy" Elizabeth Stevens fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on March 21, at the age of 98.

As was her request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Katy was born on March 16, 1919 in Beggs, Oklahoma to Roy Chester Kimble and Ella Lee (Vick) Kimble. She was the youngest of three children; Orville Chester, Ella Lee and Katherine Elizabeth. Katy grew up in Clayton, New Mexico and later Douglas, Arizona. She married Joseph "Joe" Ernest Stevens on May 23, 1936. Joe and Katy owned 7up Bottling Company in Deming. When her youngest daughter entered high school Katy went to work for the Luna County Assessors Office. Katy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Deming. She and Joe were the parents of four children: Joby (Vern) Lamplot, Ed (Nancy-deceased) Stevens, Kenny (Beth) Stevens and Katherine (Dick) Paulk.

Katy was an avid reader. She had an extensive vocabulary and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed a good game of bridge. She was a talented seamstress and an accomplished cook. Katy was well known for her Christmas divinity. She was adventurous and took a ride in a hot air balloon, a bold feat she was proud of.

Katy is survived by her sister Lee, her children, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Katy is also survived by her dear friend Sylvia Coussons (her daughter in Christ). She will be dearly missed. Her memory will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

Katy was preceded in death by: her husband Joe Stevens, brother OC and her parents.
