Diana "Punkie" Garretson passed away on Tuesday, March 21, at Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City, New Mexico.

Punkie was an active member of her community throughout her life. She was involved in local politics in southern New Mexico and worked for the Bureau of Land Management and the Department of the Interior in public relations in Las Cruces and Washington, D.C.

Punkie retired in Silver City, where she cooked meals for El Refugio and volunteered with other organizations. She opened Blackwell's Antiques in downtown Silver City 5 years ago, and ran it until her passing. She was passionate about antiques and loved Christmas.

She loved to knit, bake, cook, read, and do crossword puzzles. Punkie's greatest skill was speaking with people and she will be greatly missed by her family, community, and friends.

She is survived by three sons, Steven Edwards and wife Molly Edwards of Houston, TX, grandsons, Curtis and wife Rachel, Zachary and wife Kelsey, and Cameron; David Edwards of Phoenix, AZ; Croft and wife Jeanne Edwards of Albuquerque, NM, granddaughters Sophie, Olivia and Anastasia; two daughters, Mary Kay Gibbs of Albuquerque; Chrissie Edwards also of Albuquerque; six grandchildren; one sister, Win Taylor of Silver City, NM.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ralph Garretson, parents Jack and Mary Davis, brother, Carl Davis and sister, Christine Drangmeister.

A funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, April 13 at 1 pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Father Paul Moore officiating. Concluding service an interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest by her husband. Pallbearers will be Curtis, Zachary and Cameron Edwards, Bruce Taylor, Jim Smith, and Hubert Schmieder. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to El Refugio 800 S. Robert St. Silver City, NM 88061.
