Freddy Martinez rsAlfredo "Freddy" R. Martinez, 95, entered eternal rest on April 7, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Freddy was born July 3, 1921 in Fierro, NM to Augustine and Apolonia Martinez. He was the 8th of 10 children. On April 27, 1946 he married Lugarda Andazola and went on to have 3 children.

He began his work career mining in Hanover for roughly 10 years. His career as a custodian began with the Fierro schools in 1951 and ended with Central Elementary in 1991 after 25 years of dedicated service. Mr. Martinez took great pride in his work and to this day is spoken fondly of by those who had the honor working with him.

Following retirement he enjoyed working in his yard, taking walks to the post office, collecting cans and spending time with his family and friends. Freddy was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was an active parishioner of the Santa Clara Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lugarda. Daughter Natalia of Bayard. Sister Carolina "Care" of Grants. Grandchildren Steve (Darlene), Stephanie, Melissa (Patrick) and April (Gabriel). Great-grandchildren Brianna, Savanna, Patrick Jr., Michael, Kiana, Daniel, Mykala, Azeryah and Gavyn. Great great grandson Kellen Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, children Raul and Margarita "Margie" and numerous brothers and sisters.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 5 to 6 in the evening at Baca's Funeral Chapels followed by The Prayer Vigil and Rosary at six o'clock. Officiating will be Deacon Art Gutierrez. The Funeral Liturgy will be Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 10 o'clock in the morning at the Santa Clara Catholic Church. Concluding services and burial will follow immediately at the Fierro Cemetery. Officiating will be Father Robert Becerra.

Serving as pallbearers will be Eddie Tovar, Patrick Jr. and Michael Ortega, Daniel Martinez, Richard Marquez and Ernest Udero. Honorary pallbearers are his good friend Enrique Salido and remaining grandchildren.
