Elias Montoya 1 rsElias Montoya 2 rsElias Silva Montoya Sr., 91, a resident of Santa Clara, NM entered eternal rest Saturday, June 10, 2017 at his ranch. Elias was surrounded by family on his ranch in prayer as the good Lord and his family received him.

He was born January 30, 1926 in Monticello, NM to Polidoro Montoya and Barbarita Silva Montoya.

Elias was married to his loving wife Lupe Silva Montoya for 60 yrs.

He was a graduate from Monticello High School and NM Highlands University, earning his license as a mechanic and machine specialist. He had a successful 29 yr career and retired as a mechanic/mold maker specialist for Kennecott Chino Mines.

He was a devout member of the Santa Clara Catholic Church. He was also member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

He was an avid landowner, rancher, horseman and cattleman. Furthermore, he was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting with his family and friends.

He enjoyed a good cup of coffee each morning.

Of most importance to him was the encouragement and the celebration of his family's successes at graduations, sporting activities and various events. He continues to be an instrument of inspiration to all family members.

He is survived by one son, Eli Montoya Jr. and wife Andrea of Georgetown; three daughters, Gloria S. Montoya and partner Walter Vigil of Albuquerque; Olga Rodriguez and husband Armando Sr. of Las Cruces; Cecilia Montoya and partner Jose Flores Jr.; fifteen Grandchildren, Valerie, Angel, Frank, Lisa-Marie, Veronica, Jose, Armando Jr., Josiah, Diego, Eddie, Kristin, Luke, Glen, Dillon, and Isabella; eight great-Grandchildren, Xavier, Jaycob, Ashton, Audrianna, Vanessa, Neomiah, Sebastian, and Lyrik; one brother, Prospero S. Montoya of Albuquerque; one sister, Ofelia M. Ramos and husband Alex of T or C; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Lupe Montoya (2012); three brothers, Perfecto, Edras, Eloy, and Joe Montoya; one sister, Isabel Bernal.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 15 from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the holy rosary to follow at 6pm with Deacon Richard Rodriguez reciting. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, June 16 at 9am at Santa Clara Catholic Church with Father Robert Becerra officiating. Concluding service an interment will follow at Hurley cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Angel and Frank Madrid, Armando Rodriguez Jr., Luke, Glen, Josiah, Diego, Montoya, and Jose Rodriguez. Ushers will be Xavier Madrid, Jaycob Madrid, Dillon Leyba, Isabella Tovar, and Eddie Flores. Honorary pallbearers will be Louie Bernal, Armando Rodriguez Sr., Andrea Montoya, Jose Flores Jr., Walter Vigil, Donald Benavidez, Jimmy and Hubert Montoya.

In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to Santa Clara Catholic Church 207 S. Bayard Santa Clara, NM 88026.
