angela jaramillo rsAngela "Eva" Gomez Jaramillo, 91, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Lund Home Hospice in Gilbert, AZ. She was a current resident of Queen Valley, Arizona, and had resided in Mimbres Valley, New Mexico, for 20 years and Tucson, Arizona for 25 years. She was born in Hurley, New Mexico, to Luis and Rita Gomez.

She was actively involved in the Democratic party, supporting issues such as demanding an end to discriminatory working conditions and the dual wage system of two-tiered pay, different for Mexican and Mexican American workers as compared to white workers. She participated in the Empire Zinc Company strike of 1951 for Local 890 chapter of International Union of Mine Mill, getting arrested for picketing while pregnant.

In 1958 she was elected Justice of the Peace Precinct #11, in Grant County, New Mexico. In 1966, 1970 and 1972 she was a Democrat Precinct Committee person for the state of Arizona, Pima County. Angela worked and retired as a Quality Inspector for Hughes Aircraft (Raytheon) in 1989, where she was also a Union Counselor for Machinist #933.

Angela was loved and cherished by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. Her beautiful smile and her strong opinions will be missed by all.

She is survived by her sisters Magdalena (Jesus) Becerra, Olin (Ray) Herrera, and her sister-in-law Amelia (Luis) Gomez, daughters, Matilda (James) Smith, Yvonne (Albert) Castro, Janice (Daniel) Mavridis, son Vincent (Beth) Becerra and 7 Grandchildren, 21 Great-grandchild and 8 Great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jenaro Jaramillo, three brothers (Manuel, Luis, Gilberto) and three sisters (Socorro, Consuelo, Olivia).

Rosary and a Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017, at The Infant Jesus Catholic Church, located at 204 Cortez Ave., Hurley. NM. Interment will follow at the Ft. Bayard National Cemetery at 1 p.m.

Pallbearers will be David Yubeta, Albert Castro, John Marquez and Joseph Fuentes.

Relatives and friends are welcome at the Nan Ranch in Mimbres, located at 1362 Hwy 61, Faywood, NM (between mile posts 13 and 14), at 3 p.m. for a gathering.
