john mcgee rsJohn B. McGee passed away at his home on Sunday August 20, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. There will be a celebration of life at the Grant County Convention Center in Silver City on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 11:00AM, followed by a memorial meal at the same location. The Whiskey Creek Volunteer Fire Department will be officiating the Celebration.

John was born in Portales, NM on October 30, 1949, to Tommy and Nadine McGee, and was raised on a ranch near Elida, NM, where he attended school. He was an excellent athlete, playing basketball and running track for the Elida Tigers. After high school graduation, he became a journeyman electrician, participating in and supervising large construction projects such as schools and commercial buildings all over New Mexico.

While working on a project in Silver City, NM, in 1973, he met Linda Stone and they started an adventure together that would last more than forty years. For a while, John continued to "follow the sun" to various projects, but soon decided that he wanted to be closer to home, and accepted a job with Kennecott Copper Corporation at Chino Mines. He worked in various positions for Kennecott and its successors Phelps Dodge and Freeport McMoRan until his retirement as a senior project engineer and radiation safety officer, in April of 2015.

John was very involved in fire safety and emergency medical services. He was an active volunteer for the Whiskey Creek Fire Department, serving as assistant fire chief and emergency medical technician, as well as being heavily involved in the Santa Clara Fire Department.

John is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Stone McGee, One daughter, Shelli Allison, two grandsons, Josh Bollinger and his wife Susan, and Tyler Bollinger, one granddaughter, Shealynn Allison, three great grandsons, Riley Bollinger, Brady Bollinger, and Justin Bollinger, one great granddaughter Alaia Sandoval, one sister, Betty Price and husband Sid, and two brothers, Thomas (Buck) McGee and wife Susie, and Jim McGee and wife Cyrena. He is also survived by his special niece and nephew, Kelley and Gordon Wayne Wyatt, and numerous other nieces, nephews and friends.
