john maxwell rsJohn C. Maxwell, 83, passed away peacefully at home in Silver City on October 4.

John was born in Claypool, Arizona, on October 13, 1933, and enjoyed an immensely full and happy life. At a young age the family moved to Bisbee Ariz. where John attended school and met the love of his life, Bonnie. They were married on June 5, 1955. They spent the early years of marriage in El Paso, TX where John worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad as a telegrapher.

In 1961 John began his 36-year career with Phelps Dodge in Bisbee, AZ. and subsequently in Tyrone, NM. John retired in 1997.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors; hunting, fishing, maintaining his impeccable yard, and playing in his workshop.

Above all else, he enjoyed time with his family. He has been an active member of the LDS church and was recently ordained as an Elder. He is survived by his wife Bonnie, his son John and wife Betsy Maxwell of Silver City, NM; his daughter Debbie and husband Jerry Gerleve of Fairbanks, AK; his son Dale and wife Paige Maxwell of Albuquerque; grandchildren Jeremy Maxwell, Ryan Mortan, Lacee Petruce-Jackson , Edward Gleason, Jaysun Petruce, Rebecca Dawson, Justin Gerleve, Tamara McGrath, Emily Maxwell, and Phoebe Kiffin; great-grandchildren Jason Gerleve, Charlotte Dawson, Jaxon McGrath, Henrix Jackson, Kaye Jackson, Josephine Healy. He is also survived by his Brother Charles Maxwell and his wife Vi of Safford, AZ. John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed. Although he is no longer with them, he will always remain in his loved ones' hearts.

He was preceded in his death by his mother Anne Maxwell, father Charles Maxwell and stepmother Margaret Maxwell.

He will lie-in-state at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints beginning at 9:30 am on Monday, October 9, 2017. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in Silver City with Bishop Zollinger officiating. Interment will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Alpine Cemetery in Alpine, Az, at 10:00 am Arizona time.
