Howard "Butch" Johnson, 58, Deming resident passed away Tuesday October 10, 2017 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.

Butch, as he was affectionately known, was born March 8, 1959 in Washington D.C. His favorite pastime was rebuilding classic cars. He enjoyed riding his bike and motorcycle. Butch was a communicant of the Catholic Church.

He is survived by his companion, Maria Montes of Deming; daughter, Stephanie Johnson of Deming; daughters Vanessa and Paula; step-son, Hugo Vargas of Deming; step-daughter, Josie Montes of Las Cruces; brothers, Buddy Gavino Jr., and Lee Rey of Maryland; sister, Irene Ann Patterson of Baytown, Texas.

Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon, October 11, 2017 beginning at 4 o'clock at Baca's Funeral Chapel where a prayer vigil will begin at 6 o'clock led by Guillermina Macias. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 o'clock Thursday morning at Saint Ann's Catholic Church. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with Father Manuel F. Ibarra, Pastor officiating.
